Crafty DIY Coasters

Coasters aren’t exactly an essential item in your kitchen but with their presence, it’s simply much better! Most are designed to protect the wooden surface of your table. But, the better ones can absorb water and prevent water ring from forming on your table. So, you can rest your arm on the table without worrying about accidentally getting your arms wet.

1. Scrabble

Scrabble is fun for the entire family. But, there might come a time where we don’t really enjoy it that much as before. Instead of keeping them in the drawer under the bed, let’s take them out and give them a new purpose? Making coasters out of scrabble can be fun and easy for your kids. Normally, 4 by 4 tiles are enough for a standard sized coaster but you can opt for bigger size if you want to. Glue the tiles on top of a cork board. Then, spray it with a protective coating. If the tiles are made of wood, having the right coating will protect and prolong its life span as your home’s new coaster.

I know what it looks like. Just take the lid off some mason jar, turn it upside down and that’s it. That works but you could add a little bit more crafty effort to it to personalize the whole thing. You know, like putting on an anti slip mat under it. Or, in the idea above, sticking a circular cork mat on it. You can paint the cork mat with certain patterns or initials of the names of your family members. It’s a simple but fun way to create easy coasters!

6. Cork Coasters

Here’s an easy way to repurpose your corks. So, keep them stashed somewhere. When you have enough numbers, take them out for a new tiny coaster project. Depending on the size of the corks, the amount you need varies. You just need a base layer of either foam or cork board. Then, glue the cut corks on top of them. We think it’s fine to have square shaped. That’s easier to make compared to this round one.
